The Kaduna State House of Assembly has passed the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Law, 2025, and progressed several other bills intended to strengthen the state’s educational system, judicial processes and traditional governance structures.
During its plenary session on Tuesday, the Assembly adopted the report presented by the Chairman of the Committee on Education concerning a bill to repeal the Kaduna State Polytechnic Edict of 1989 (as contained in the Laws of Kaduna State, 1991) and replace it with the newly enacted Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Law, 2025. The bill received unanimous approval, signalling a significant shift in the landscape of tertiary education in the state.
In another legislative move, a bill proposing the establishment of the Kaduna State College of Agricultural Technology and Environmental Sciences, Saminaka, passed its first reading. The bill is sponsored by Hon. Munira Suleiman Tanimu and is expected to address regional needs in agricultural and environmental education.
The Assembly also began deliberation on an amendment to the Kaduna State Traditional Institution Law No. 21 of 2021. The amendment, sponsored by Hon. Shehu Yunusa, aims to refine the statutory structure governing traditional institutions and enhance their administrative effectiveness.
Further progress was made on a bill seeking to establish the Kaduna State House of Assembly Service Commission. Known formally as the Bill for a Law to Provide for the Establishment of the Kaduna State House of Assembly Service Commission and for Other Related Matters, 2025, the proposed legislation successfully passed its second reading and has now been forwarded to relevant committees for more detailed scrutiny.
