JUST IN: Gov Aiyedatiwa approves employment of over 1,000 secondary school teachers

TESCOM Publishes List, Documentation Begins Today

In a move to address the persistent shortage of teachers in Ondo State’s public schools, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the employment of 1,010 new secondary school teachers.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Monday.

The approval follows the completion of a rigorous recruitment process conducted by the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), which screened thousands of applicants last year.

The list of successful candidates will be made available online today and will also be displayed at TESCOM headquarters and its zonal offices across the state from Tuesday. Successful candidates are expected to commence documentation immediately.

Governor Aiyedatiwa had previously authorized the recruitment of 1,000 secondary school and 1,000 primary school teachers, kickstarting the hiring process by TESCOM and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). 

While the list for secondary school teachers has been finalized, the selection process for primary school teachers is nearing completion.

The governor has consistently emphasized the need to strengthen the teaching workforce, particularly in rural areas, where staff shortages have significantly impacted education. His directive ensured that the recruitment process was tailored to address the specific needs of understaffed schools across the state.

This latest hiring initiative aligns with the Aiyedatiwa administration’s broader efforts to revamp the education sector. Just last week, the governor approved N633 million for the registration of students sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). 

Additionally, his administration recently approved the upgrade and conversion of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into a University of Agriculture and Agribusiness.
