JUST IN: Armed herdsmen attack Ondo communities, reportedly kill over 20 farmers

Suspected armed herdsmen have launched deadly attacks on four communities in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, reportedly killing more than 20 farmers.

As reported by an Ondo based online medium, Newstrack, the midnight assaults targeted Pastor Camp, Sunday Village, Ademekun Camp, and Aba Alajido Camp within the Ala Elefosan area, forcing residents to flee for safety.

A local source revealed that herdsmen have been carrying out unprovoked attacks on various farming communities, leaving many dead and others missing.

According to the source, at least 14 bodies have been recovered in the past 48 hours, while search efforts continue for missing persons.

Describing the severity of the attack, the source lamented that over 20 people were shot dead during the invasion.

Confirming the incident, the Regent of Ademekun Village, Princess Adelowo Adekemisola, expressed deep sorrow over the killing of more than 14 farmers last weekend.

She stated that the community has been struggling with persistent invasions by herdsmen, yet no decisive action has been taken by security forces.

According to her, the attackers entered the area from the Edo-Ondo boundary before unleashing terror on the residents.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami, assured that security agencies are intensifying efforts to track down the perpetrators and safeguard other communities in Akure North and its surroundings.
