Deji of Akure bans drumming, closes palace road for Ulefunta

The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, CFR, has announced a ban on drumming across the state capital as part of the annual Ulefunta festival.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Adeyeye Michael, said the monarch will begin his traditional leave on Monday, September 15, and return on Sunday, September 21.

During the period, the road leading to the palace will be sealed off, while shops, markets, and stalls around the premises are to remain shut.

Residents were asked to respect the directives but assured that the week-long seclusion would not disrupt normal activities in other parts of the city.

According to the palace, the monarch will use the sacred period to pray for peace, progress, and unity in Akure Kingdom.

The restrictions, it added, are part of long-standing customs associated with the Ulefunta observance.

“Akure a gbe a oo,” the statement ended.
