In an unexpected outcome from the recently concluded local government elections in Lagos State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured a councillorship position out of the 376 seats contested.
The opposition party emerged victorious in Ward D of Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), where its candidate, Babatunde Dosunmu, defeated the representative of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dosunmu, who previously belonged to the APC before switching allegiance to the PDP ahead of the polls, delivered the party’s only win in the state.
There were brief tensions in the Yaba area on election day as rival party supporters clashed, but prompt intervention by officers of the Lagos State Police Command restored order, allowing the voting process to continue without further disruption.
Although the PDP won just one seat, the victory in Yaba represents a symbolic breakthrough in a state historically controlled by the APC.
