Diaspora can drive sustainable philanthropy through MSMEs support — NiDCOM Chair Abike Dabiri-Erewa

The Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa on Friday called on Nigerians abroad to harness their collective strength to drive sustainable philanthropic efforts, especially in support of small businesses and economic empowerment back home.

Speaking at the maiden South West Philanthropy Summit in Lagos,
Dabiri-Erewa emphasised that philanthropy should move beyond temporary aid to long-term solutions that create lasting impact.

She revealed that NiDCOM’s partnership with philanthropy is focused on enabling Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute meaningfully.

In her words, “Philanthropy, It’s all about giving back. As somebody said here, poverty should not be a lasting thing. So if you are strong, help the weak. Let the rich help the poor.”

“Now, this is a platform where Nigerians abroad can give back. A dollar, ten dollars and what you’re going to see is transparency. You’re going to see what you’re able to do. You’re going to see who you’re able to help.”

Chairman of Odua Investment Company, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru added that “the Southwest region has the capacity to serve as a catalyst for the rest of the country in the area of economic growth,” particularly through MSME support.
