JAPA: Finland opens seasonal work permit applications for Nigerians, other foreign workers with 2.2m minimum wage

The Finnish Immigration Service has launched applications for the 2025 Finland Seasonal Work Permit, creating job opportunities for foreign workers, including Nigerians.

This initiative allows migrants to work in Finland’s agriculture, forestry, and tourism sectors for a limited period.

Work Duration and Permit Validity

The seasonal work permits enable foreign workers to secure temporary employment for up to nine months within a 12-month period. The permits also ensure that migrant workers comply with Finland’s labor laws while contributing to the country’s workforce.

Categories of Seasonal Work Permits

There are two primary types of seasonal work permits available, depending on the duration of employment:

Seasonal Work Visa (Up to 3 Months): Applicants from countries requiring a visa must apply at a Finnish embassy before traveling. However, those from visa-exempt nations can apply directly for a certificate for seasonal work through the Finnish Immigration Service.

Residence Permit for Seasonal Work (3 to 9 Months): Foreigners seeking employment for more than three months must obtain a residence permit before entering Finland. Since the processing period can take up to 90 days, early application is recommended.

Eligibility Requirements for Applicants

To qualify for the Finland Seasonal Work Permit, applicants must meet several key requirements:

Employment Offer: A signed job contract from a Finnish employer is mandatory.

Minimum Salary: Seasonal workers must earn at least €1,430 (approximately N2.2 million) per month unless otherwise specified in a collective agreement.

Accommodation Standards: Workers must secure housing that meets Finland’s health and safety regulations.

Proper Documentation: Applications must be fully completed and submitted with all required documents to avoid delays.

Application Process

Individuals interested in Finland’s seasonal work opportunities must follow these steps:

Obtain a Job Offer: Seek employment in agriculture, forestry, or tourism from Finnish employers.

Sign an Employment Contract: Secure a legally binding agreement with the employer.

Prepare the Required Documents: Gather essential paperwork, including a valid passport, job contract, and proof of accommodation.

Select the Appropriate Permit: Apply for either a seasonal work visa (for jobs up to three months) or a residence permit (for employment between three and nine months).

Pay the Application Fees: Complete the necessary fee payment for processing.

Monitor Application Progress: Track the application status via the Finnish Immigration Service’s official website.

With these opportunities, foreign workers, including Nigerians, can explore employment prospects in Finland while ensuring compliance with legal and labor requirements.
