Military rescues six out of 24 students kidnapped by bandits in Zamfara

Six out of the 24 students from Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, who were kidnapped in the early hours of Friday, have been rescued in a daring military operation following a bandit invasion of the Sabon-Gida community in Bungudu Local Government Area.

A high-ranking military source close to the Commander of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Gusau, confirmed this development, revealing that Brigadier General Sani Ahmed is leading the operation alongside other security agencies deep into the forest near Tsafe Local Government Area.

During the operation, several bandits were neutralized, and a cache of weapons was seized.

Before the rescue, an anonymous student from the university reported that more than 24 of their schoolmates, mainly female, were abducted during the attack. Additionally, a resident of Sabon-Gida named Nazeer Sabon-Gida stated that the gunmen stormed the community around 3 a.m., unleashing indiscriminate gunfire.

The attackers targeted three student hostels, abducting all the students residing there.

In response to the incident, the Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the student abductions.

However, they were unable to confirm the exact number of students taken. The police spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, also confirmed that a rescue operation was underway.
