Akoko North East/West: Your Demand is Legitimate, Akoko Monarchs Tell Women

The continued demand for female candidacy by the women's wing of the All Progressives Congress in Akoko North East and Akoko North West Federal Constituency has been described as a legitimate demand.

This was in reaction to the continuation of women's peaceful demonstration within the Federal Constituency to further their demand for female candidacy in the forthcoming by-election for the Federal Constituency.

The women, on Tuesday, walked through the streets of Aridigi-Akoko, ending the march at the Palace of the Zaki of Arigidi-Akoko, where they met with the entire monarchs in Akoko North-West who were holding their monthly meeting at Zaki's Palace.

Mrs Idiat Adesina, who spoke on behalf of the women; sought their support for female candidacy in the imminent by-election and pleaded with them to support a woman as APC candidate.

"We have come to you, our kings and fathers to seek your support for the women folk. As your wives, daughters, sisters and mothers, we have come to request for your support and and backing; we are assuring you that a woman is equally capable to deliver dividends of democracy and that is why we are requesting for your support.

"We are pleading with you as our royal fathers and leaders of the various communities in Akoko North-West to consider the women and allow one of us to represent the Federal Constituency, this time."

Reacting on behalf of the kings, the Oloyin of Oyin-Akoko, Oba Lawrence Bamisile III, said: "As your kings, we have heard your words, and we must say that your demand is a legitimate one.

"We will however ruminate over it and will give a feedback after we must have assessed other candidates."

Recall that the women, last week Tuesday, took to the streets of Ikare-Akoko, the council headquarters, to demand the concession of the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the womenfolk, marching through the broad street to the Palace of the Olukare of Ikare Akoko, Oba Akadiri Momoh.
