The 11-member University Needs Assessment team has begun its assessment at the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo on the need to upgrade the college to the university status, saying it is not meant to witch-hunt any staff.
This was contained in a statement by the Director of Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the institution, Mrs Oluseto Olatuyi, on Friday in Ondo.
Speaking during the assessment, Mrs Rakiat Ilyasu, the team leader, said that there should be no need to exercise fears by the college staff from the exercise.
“We are not here to spite or ridicule anybody, but to do our job, and to make it easier for you to carry out your work, because what you have been looking for quite sometimes is now here,” she said.
Ilyasu explained that the team was in the institution to carry out assessment of facilities available, preparatory to take-off of the institution, as Federal University of Education.
Ilyasu, who expressed satisfaction with the reception given to the team, commended the college’s management for ensuring a friendly atmosphere, stating that the team members, would do everything possible during the assignment to ensure a “ better institution that you have always wish to have.
“Whatever we are doing today, is just an exercise for documentation to show that this institution is upgraded, to show what are on ground, and here are the gaps to be filled, so that they can fulfil that engagement to the next level they are supposed to be.
“We all know that as College of Education, it is not the same thing like a university. It is not because if it is, there would be no need for an upgrade, I believe that at the end of the day, everybody would be happy.
“We are not here to screen anybody out, the screening will come later, but what we need to do is to see what is on ground, so that we can know where the gaps are for better take-off of the university,” she stated.
Responding, the Provost of the College, Dr Samuel Akintunde, expressed confidence in the ability of the team to carry out the assignment given to it.
Akintunde assured the team of support and prayed that God would grant the team success at the end of the exercise.
Membership of the team, are drawn from the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) Abuja, National Universities Commission (NUC), National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund).
