Following the release of schedule for the by-election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the vacant seat for Surulere Constituency 1 at the House of Representatives, an experienced Tax Administrator and APC chieftain, Fuad Kayode Laguda has declared his intent to occupy the seat.
Fuad Laguda made this known during a press briefing shortly after the electoral umpire released directives on the by-election in the constituency and other constituencies in the country.
Recall that the former representative and Speaker of the 9th Assembly, Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila resigned from the office following his appointment as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the seta was declared vacant by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
In his address, the 2-time former House of Assembly aspirant noted he acknowledges the enormous task ahead of him owing to excellent performance of Rt Hon. Gbajabiamila while in office.
“With my prolific and ongoing consultation, the level of acceptance, and the call by the people, I accept with great humility the clarion call to represent Surulere Constituency 1 in the Federal House of Representatives.
“I recognize the enormous responsibility that lies ahead, especially in light of the exceptional leadership of our utmost leader, Rt Hon. Dr. Femi Gbajabiamila. Surulere has become a benchmark for development under his representation, and I am determined to continue this legacy by working tirelessly for the welfare and progress of Surulere 1.”
He further sought for the support of the party members and constituents while affirming his commitment to the progressive mandate of the party.
“During the 2023 General Election, I served as the Director General of the party's Campaign Council (TGSEE), successfully delivering all five candidates in Surulere Local Government. Additionally, I was appointed as a member of the Joint Task Force for Surulere 2, further demonstrating my commitment to the success of our party.
“I use this opportunity to seek and solicit your support in the forthcoming by-election, schedule for 19th August 2023, to represent you at the Federal House of Representatives.”
