US, other world powers’ support on insurgency minimal, says Buratai - Featured Trending Popular Viral News

Ex-Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has said the United States, the United Kingdom and other world powers’ contributions to help Nigeria deal with insurgency are minimal.

This was just as Buratai said the war on terrorism required a collective fight, adding that relying solely on the military to end the war would be counterproductive.

Tukur, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, stated this at the lecture for the 24th, 25th, and 26th convocation of Modibbo Adama University Yola.

He spoke on the paper titled, ‘The Nigerian front in the war on terror: Security and Development’.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abdullahi Tukur, said the convocation was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic which stopped the ceremony from holding in April 2020.

He explained that while countries such as the USA, UK, Germany, and France, had pledged support, it had not translated into tangible results.

He said, “Many countries have pledged to support Nigeria’s effort at counterinsurgency and counterterrorism but the responses have been a mixed bag. While pledges of support have been received from countries like USA, UK, Germany, and France, these have not yet translated into tangible results on the ground.”
