FCTA fumes as Naval rating driving against traffic beats up VIO commander

A Nigerian Navy rating, on Tuesday, assaulted the Area Commander of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, popularly known as Vehicle Inspection Office, in the Federal Capital Territory.

The incident happened along the Kubwa-Dutse Road around 9am.

The naval rating, identified as A. A. Yusuf, was said to be driving against the traffic when the Area Commander, Segun Atanda, blocked him with a DRTS duty vehicle.

Yusuf was said to have alighted from his red Toyota Corolla with number plate Yobe AA-440-GJB, and attacked Atanda.

When contacted, the Chairman, FCT Ministerial Traffic Management Team, Ikharo Attah, confirmed the incident.

He condemned the assault on the DRTS officer and urged uniformed personnel to always comply with traffic rules.

Attah said, “The incessant attacks and assaults on traffic officers by uniformed men are very disturbing. On the Nyanya, Kubwa and Dutse Alhaji roads, traffic officers are daily being assaulted by uniformed men.

“Uniformed men must know that esprit de corps is not permission for lawlessness.

“Experience has shown that once uniformed persons drive against the traffic, they are easily followed by civilians, who initially may be afraid to do so.”
